We’re in the midst of the 4th quarter! Every year the same thing happens. The 4th quarter makes up a significant portion of our income. And it seems every year we’re never prepared.
The first few years in private practice, I knew the trends. Slow summers, booming winters, and after Mother’s Day meant death on my books. So when the cooler months rolled back around I was always excited for the ride.
The truth is, I was never ready. At least not the first few years. The first few years the rush would come and go and I’d just be sprinting like crazy to try and catch it. All the successful businesses were already ahead of the winter rush we all knew was coming.
Here I was, year after year sprinting…struggling…never getting ahead of the rush. Then one year all that changed. I didn’t want to miss the rush anymore. I didn’t want to miss a single opportunity to get a sale.
I prepared my website for all the new traffic that I knew would be coming. Capturing leads and emails with a single effort. I stocked up on gift cards and blasted my entire email list when the experts said they should go out. I enlisted the help of trusted friends to “dial for dollars” around Black Friday. I begged those same friends to answer my phone when potential new clients would call to book.
When clients came in I had prepackaged gifts ready. Especially for the male clients who needed me to tell them what to buy their significant others. They didn’t want to shop. They just wanted to buy. I always had gift cards on display and I made sure I added staff and retail to help boost my income.
If you’re headed into this busy season unprepared again, you still have time. Your website can be updated. There’s still time to ask friends for help. There’s still time partner with another therapist. There’s still time to grab some quick retail.
Do what you can now and be ready before the rush so you don’t need to scramble when the rush gets here!
